Only white folks are racist.

People talk about America being a racist nation. If it is, it has only become one in the last two years under the most divisive administration ever. But that still doesn't mean this is a racist country like it was before Martin Luther King and separate drinking fountains etc. But I am beginning to think Chicago is the most divided city in the nation. Not to mention the most corrupt, but that's for another day.

Mayor Daley announcing he would not be running for mayor again caused a big scramble for who was going to run. Rahm came home and proved he was eligible to run because boxes he left in the crawlspace of the home he rented out while in D.C. meant he was coming back. Chicago was still home and he always intended to come back. Unless something else happens, his name will be on the ballet. But even before he was approved, as soon as he came into town 2 or 3 people jumped off the ballet. You don't suppose he made them an offer they couldn't refuse, do you? Hmmm.

It looks like the main competition for Rahm just may be Carol Moseley Braun. A week ago Sen James Meeks dropped out, he was one of the main challengers to Rahm Emanual's residency status. A couple of days ago neither Braun or Danny Davis were budging, they were planning on staying in the race until Rev. Jesse Jackson called them to a meeting on Wednesday night at his Rainbow Push headquarters. Danny Davis dropped out yesterday, and is endorsing Braun whole-heartedly, it's all about unity. Black unity. A-freaking-mazing.

In Chicago it doesn't seem to matter what party you belong to. It matters what color you are. Jesse Jackson and other local black leaders are trying to narrow down the number of black candidates so they have the best chance of winning the mayoral seat for a black candidate.

On the other side of town I'm sure there are groups of white guys pushing other white guys to drop out of the race so they can put all their support and money behind the perfect white guy who can win.

NOT. If that were happening there would be an uproar! That would be racist and just not acceptable.

In another part of Chicago you just know Luis Gutierrez is planning some kind of civil disobedience because his dream act didn't pass. He said he would quit the democrat party if it didn't happen but I haven't heard a word. Gutierrez who has been quoted as saying he only has one loyalty, and that is to the immigrant community. In Luis-speak - that means the illegal immigrant community. He calls them all immigrants, the "illegal" part is apparently - offensive. This from the man who was the former leader of the Puerto Rican Socialist Party in Illinois. Not a surprise.

But call me silly. Shouldn't Gutierrez be loyal to ALL his constituents? I mean, a few of them have to have papers, right? And shouldn't he be loyal to the U.S. Constitution? Now he's talking about Latinos breaking off and starting a whole new party of their own, the tequila party!

We have politicians who are running for office based on race, and others who are putting people first who aren't even citizens! And there's a lot of it in Chicago.

We are not supposed to judge people by race, right? Isn't that what MLK wanted? Yet we aren't supposed to talk about how divided Chicago is by exactly that. Race. I guess it's only bad if it's white people doing things on the basis of race. Hmm. That's the new status quo I guess.

Hell pretty soon we're going to need affirmative action for us white people!

Chicago NOlympics!

I'm a little disappointed. Not about the Olympics, I was actually pretty ambivalent about it even though I live in a Chicago suburb. But after it was announced that Chicago was knocked out in the first round, I was shocked but relieved. And then I must admit to experiencing a bit of glee. Congratulatons Rio!!

No, what I'm disappointed about is that Sean Hannity beat me to the great article in the Times Online from the U.K. today and talked about it before I could write about it. I was searching for something that said how I was feeling, and this article does. The title "Obama's Olympic failure will only add to doubts about his presidency." The saying 'perception is reality' comes to mind. And the perception of our president in the minds of the rest of the world is that he's well, a girlie-man. No one is afraid of him.

President Obama thought this Olympic bid was about him. He said "I know you face a difficult choice among several great cities and nations with impressive bids of their own. So I've come here today to urge you to choose Chicago for the same reasons I chose Chicago nearly twenty-five years ago - the reasons I fell in love with the city I still call home." And "Each one of those neighborhoods - from Greektown to the Ukrainian Village; from Devon to Pilsen to Washington Park - has its own unique character, history, song, and sometimes language. But each is also a part of our city - one city - a city where I finally found a home."

"We stand at a moment in history when the fate of each nation is inextricably linked to the fate of all nations - a time of common challenges that require a common effort. And I ran for President because I believed deeply that at this defining moment, the United States of America has a responsibility to help lead that effort, and to forge new partnerships with the nations and peoples of the world."

"Nearly one year ago, on a clear November night, people from every corner of the world gathered in the city of Chicago or in front of their televisions to watch the results of the U.S. Presidential election. Their interest wasn't about me as an individual. .. " Why on earth did he say this? The man is still campaigning and imagines that glowing aura around his head is real! Did he really believe that the IOC and the other bidder's delegations cared about his success in our presidential election??

Of course he had to say something apologetic and remind people that he is different from that evil guy George W. Bush - “We’ve got everyone. This could be a meeting in Chicago, because we look like the world. Over the last several years sometimes that fundamental truth about the United States has been lost,” he said.

Last several years, think he meant EIGHT years in particular?

The man is pathetic. Utterly and tragically (for us) pathetic.

Obama thought he could go to Copenhagen and burst onto the scene like a rock star and MAKE it happen for Chicago by the sheer force of his personality.

But guess what, Mr. President? Turns out - you're not all that. Glad others see it as well.

**Oh, and how long before somebody says the IOC is racist? Not saying it makes sense. Just askin'.

A little bit of hope.

There are some days now when instead of an over-riding frustration and a feeling of helplessness, I feel a glimmer, JUST a glimmer - of hope. Some days it seems as if Obama is self-destructing maybe a little bit. Obama and many of his democratic legislators. They are saying things that are outrageously moronic about Americans coming out to express their outrage about the healthcare plan, the stimulus, cap and trade, etc. Calling the anger orchestrated, calling protesters mobs and nazis and implying they are simply misinformed.

It's all very overwhelming and discouraging but now, it seems the Democrats are back on their heels a bit. They aren't used to being disagreed with so vehemently, and worse - not believed. They are spending much of their time on the defense as opposed to going out and preaching to the choir which I suspect they thought they were going to be able to do for quite a while once Obama was elected.

I remember inauguration day when everyone made such a huge deal about how historic it was, the first black president and all. Yes, it was historic for that reason. And unfortunately this president was elected in large part because the majority of the black population in this country voted for him. Just saying that could be considered racist by some, even though it is a statement of fact. He was also elected because so many people hated George Bush that they voted against the Republican party. And then there were the star gazers. That made me sick. People who saw Barack Obama spewing all his garbage about hope and change and saw some kind of aura around him. What they didn't realize was the aura was actually the stink of Chicago thug style politics rising from his shoulders. He has proved (I hate that word, it always seems so grammatically incorrect) himself to be an elitist, a bully, and God help us, a liar.

People aren't buying it. People are standing up and speaking out and Obama's (Saul Alinky's) response is to diminish, discount, and ridicule the people who do not agree with him. He goes on as if everyone agrees with him, a political "fake it till you make it" kind of game. But I am seeing hope. And I am feeling immense pride in all those people who are getting in the faces of their congress people and senators and fighting for what they believe in.

It saddens me that this country is more divided than ever before. But the changes Obama is trying to enact are next to impossible to take back when people realize how bad it all really is. Liberty is what this country is supposed to be about and liberty is what the American people are fighting for. I'll be damned if I'll let this president take that away from me.
